Therapeutic riding is one of the most effective retraining-Rehabilitation methods for people who have neurological and sensory disorders with motor or cognitive deficits.
The horse gives us bothstimuli through its bodyheat and its rhythmic movement, which resembles the sequence of human motion during walking.
At the same time, horse-back riding helps maintain range if motion of the hip joints. It is a known fact that increased muscle tone leads to muscle shortening on the one hand and joint deformation on the other. With systematic intervention of riding therapy we achieve increased range of motion of the joint, reduced spasticity and relaxation of the muscular system. We prevent contractures and keep bilateral joints in good condition.
The horse’s normal patterns of movement reach the brain immediately, which is essential in Rehabilitation, thus forcing the patient to respond.
Therapeutic effects
- Normalization of muscle tone
- Improvement of head, trunk and pelvic control
- Inhibits abnormal movement patterns and promotes normal patterns
- Improves balance
- Improves motor coordination
- Improves cardio-respiratory function and endurance
In spite of everything, therapeutic horseback riding is a powerful incentive because the patient is taken out a standard treatment environment.
Therapeutic riding programs are implemented at our center on selected patient groups in collaboration with our qualified therapists at the respective riding club in the area.
