Speech therapy is the science which focuses on the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with communication-language, speech, voice and swallowing disorders.
At DIAPLASIS Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, patients who have had a stroke or suffer from neurogenic diseases, traumatic brain injuries, congenital or acquired syndromes, have undergone laryngectomy, tracheotomy, etc. are integrated into the speech therapy program.
Computer-aided speech therapy
At our center we implement modern speech therapy methods with the assistance of a computer, the latest speech therapy software as well as the Visi – Pitch ΙV (U.S.A.) system, the latest version of the most widely used clinical instrumentation tool for speech-language pathologists in America and abroad for the evaluation and the rehabilitation of patient disorders requiring Speech therapy intervention.
Disorders that are treated:
Communication – speech disorders (aphasia, apraxia, slurred speech). The patient is unable to express or understand the spoken or written word. Cognitive, memory, attention, concentration, problem solving, orientation in space and time disorders usually coexist.
Speech disorders – Flow (dysarthria, stuttering). There is impaired breathing, articulation, resonance, prosody, or speech flow.
Voice Disorders (dysphonia, aphonia).. Voice disorders are observed in terms of intensity, duration and voice quality.
Chewing – swallowing disorders (dysphagia). There is a difficulty in chewing and swallowing of solids and/or liquids in the pre-preparative phase (1st), oral phase (2 nd) and/or pharyngeal phase (3 rd ) of swallowing. Serious difficulties are created in terms of the patient’s eating and drinking safety.
